Dr Debono grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He did his medical school, residency and fellowship at Indiana University. He then practiced hematology-oncology for 12 years in a small community south of Chicago. While there he was also a medical director for a non-profit hospice, and became board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He then moved to Detroit, Michigan where he practiced palliative medicine full time: for three years at a large academic medical center: Henry Ford Medical Center and for three years at Karmanos Cancer Center: an NCI designated cancer center.. He started with Anthem on June 1st, 2017. He works to advocate for the Cancer Care Quality Program which aims to encourage and reward high-value care and is also involved in developing solutions to encourage the regular use of palliative care for members with advanced illness. In his spare time he tries to corral three teenagers and enjoys Italian cooking.
