About the Session

Nursing homes have had many iterations, from the “asylum” version supported by religious and civic groups in the 1800’s to the $100 billion industry caring for 25% of the population 85 and older. This institutional model has been a safety net to those most vulnerable, but it is rife with inadequacies made apparent most recently during COVID-19. The model is ready for its next iteration. This Lab will be framed by experts with differing points of view on the future of skilled nursing facilities, serving as a space for attendees to identify policy options for future models.
